Translating Research into Highest Quality Patient Care

NHG-NTU/LKCMedicine Research Seminar - Metabolic and Vascular Diseases

5 March 2014

With the increased precedence of metabolic diseases such as Diabetes, research leading to improved clinical care in this area has been a key research focus for both institutions.

At this seminar, Clinician-Scientists from NHG and Research Faculty Members from LKCMedicine shared about their research on metabolic and vascular diseases.

LKCMedicine speakers that presented at this seminar are Prof Walter Wahli (Professor of Metabolic Disease, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU) and Prof Sven Pettersson (Visiting Professor, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU). Prof Wahli gave an insightful presentation on the function and role of the Fatty Acid Receptors (PPARs) and how it affects metabolic and physiological responses in different situations, while Prof Pettersson presented on how gut microbiota can affect metabolic and immunity processes.

Speakers from NHG were Dr Rinkoo Dalan (Consultant, Endocrinology Department, Tan Tock Seng Hospital), Dr Augustinus Laude (Deputy Head (Research) & Consultant, Tan Tock Seng Hospital) and Dr Colin Tan (Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinician-Researcher, Tan Tock Seng Hospital).
